Intramural (In-House) Baseball Program - HYA’s Intramural Baseball Program consists of three (3) separate levels: Pony (equivalent of tee-ball), Minors (coach-pitch) and Majors (“kid-pitch”). Each of these levels are designed for boys ages 5 through 12 either not eligible for HYA’s travel baseball program because of their age or because they were not selected for a travel team. Games for all intramural levels start in late April and run through mid June. Practices start in early April. Generally, Minors and Majors will have two (2-3) events per week, which may be on any weeknight or on Saturday, consisting of two (1-2) practices, two (1-2) games, or some combination thereof. Our Pony level will generally have one (1) practice or game per week. Generally, the Pony practices are scheduled for a weeknight, with the games on Saturday mornings. There will be evaluations for all players that register to play in the Majors level. Evaluations are mandatory (see below for more information).

The success of our baseball program is dependent on parent/guardian participation so please consider helping!  We are always in need of Head Coaches, Assistant coaches, or just some willing hands for a few practices (every little bit will help!)

Pony (birth dates 5/1/11- 4/30/13) - Intramural against other Hempfield teams, plus cross-over games against teams from St. Leo the Great. This level is a combination of tee-ball or coach pitch, depending upon the individual player’s skill level. Coaches are encouraged to pitch to their players if possible. Evaluations are not held for this age group. Games consist of three (3) innings. Every player bats in each inning. The inning ends when all players for both teams have batted, regardless of the number of outs recorded. While we do not conduct evaluations for our Pony players, it is required that you attend on the evaluation date (please see below for more information) in order to fulfill your fundraising obligation – either pick-up lottery calendars or pay the $40 opt-out fee. Pony players are not required to be evaluated, but will need to stop by Lanco Fieldhouse on March 4th between 1-3 pm; if they are selecting the lottery calendar option for completing the fundraiser requirement. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO PICK UP LOTTERY CALENDARS. If you do not pick up the lottery calendars, you will need to pay the $40 opt out fee. PONY DOES NOT HAVE EVALUATIONS.

Minors (birth dates 5/1/08 - 4/30/11) - Intramural baseball against other HYA teams. Coaches pitch to players in this league. No playoffs will be held. This age group will generally be for the younger or less-skilled players within the age bracket and/or those with little (or no) experience. If you sign up for Minors, you do not need to be evaluated. However, it is required that you attend on the evaluation date (please see below for more information) in order to fulfill your fundraising obligation – either pick-up lottery calendars or pay the $40 opt-out fee. Minor players are not required to be evaluated, but will need to stop by Lanco Fieldhouse sometime on March 4th between 1-3 pm, if they are selecting the lottery calendar option for completing the fundraiser requirement. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY TO PICK UP LOTTERY CALENDARS. If you do not pick up the lottery calendars, you will need to pay the $40 opt out fee. MINORS DOES NOT HAVE EVALUATIONS.

Majors (birth dates 5/1/06 - 4/30/11) - Intramural baseball against other Hempfield Youth Association teams. Kids pitch to each other in this league. After the season is over, a select group of kids will form two teams and will play in an All Star game against each other. All Star teams will be created by the Majors coaches. This is a fun way to end the season! This age group will generally be for the older kids within the age bracket and/or the stronger skilled players. Mandatory evaluations are held at this level, the purpose of which is to ensure that teams are divided to achieve the most parity. No player that is 7 or 8 years old will be permitted to play in the Majors if they did not attend the evaluations – No exceptions! If it is determined that a player’s skill level (for that year) is best suited for our Minor League, that player will automatically be placed on a team in the Minors – there is no need to come to another evaluation. Likewise, any player participating in the try-outs for one of our 10U travel teams who is not selected for a travel team will automatically be placed in the Majors. Based on the evaluation results, teams will be created to help acheive even teams.

The evaluation date for the 2018 season is March 3rd from noon - 2 pm.

ALL MAJORS REGISTRANTS MUST ATTEND EVALUATIONS!

NOTE: - All players between the ages of 7 and 10 that want to play in the majors level will be evaluated through the same evaluation process to help select even teams. If you would prefer that your child be placed directly into the Minors, please state that on the registration form.

Anyone who doesn't make the roster of a 10U travel team will be placed on a majors roster.

Please contact Mark Garber at mkgarber5@gmail.com  with any boys intramural baseball questions.
